SGCC Commends Launch of FITTskills Programme to Strengthen International Trade Capacity

June 03, 20262 min read

The Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce extends its warmest congratulations and sincere appreciation to Dr. Vishnu Doerga, Chair of ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc. (ACI), founding member of SGCC, and former Chair of the Chamber, on the launch of the internationally recognised FITTskills Programme in Guyana.

This initiative comes at an important time, as Guyana and Suriname continue to experience growing international interest, increased trade opportunities, and expanding private sector engagement across multiple industries. As more international companies seek partnerships in the region, it is essential that local professionals and businesses are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to participate meaningfully in global trade.

For SGCC, the launch of this programme represents more than a training opportunity. It is a strategic investment in the people, businesses, and institutions that will support the next phase of regional trade and economic integration. Areas such as market entry, procurement, logistics, trade finance, exporting, and global value chains are becoming increasingly important for companies seeking to grow beyond their domestic markets.

The Chamber recognises this programme as a practical and timely platform for strengthening the capacity of CEOs, business development managers, procurement officers, logistics professionals, entrepreneurs, and young professionals. By building international trade skills, local businesses will be better positioned to engage foreign investors, negotiate partnerships, access new markets, and compete with greater confidence.

SGCC is especially pleased to acknowledge the continued contribution of its founding members and past leadership in advancing private sector development. The work being done through ACI reflects the same spirit of business growth, entrepreneurship, and regional cooperation that remains central to the Chamber’s mission.

We therefore express our sincere gratitude for this continued commitment to capacity-building and private sector advancement. Initiatives of this nature are vital to ensuring that Guyana and Suriname are not only attracting international opportunities, but are also preparing local businesses and professionals to benefit from them.

SGCC encourages its members and wider business network to take note of the FITTskills Programme and consider how international trade training can strengthen their competitiveness. As regional trade continues to expand, programmes such as these will play an important role in helping companies move from interest to action, and from opportunity to measurable results.

The Chamber looks forward to continued collaboration with partners who share the vision of building a stronger, more connected, and globally competitive private sector across Guyana and Suriname.
