Improving Education in Suriname’s Interior

Suriname's Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture (MinOWC) recently convened a conference in Paramaribo to address educational challenges in Suriname’s interior. Ten solutions were proposed to enhance quality and accessibility.

Key recommendations include introducing an Education Act for the Interior, modern teaching materials including improved internet access, and bilingual education tailored to local contexts. Suggestions also focused on decentralizing school management and creating professional networks for teachers.

Moreover, fostering partnerships between government, businesses, and Traditional Authorities was highlighted to improve outcomes. Facilities for technology, entrepreneurship, and leadership were proposed to spur local development.

These measures aim to transform education in Suriname’s interior, fostering self-reliance and development for the region's communities.

Fernandes Bakery's Christmas Bread Festival Draws Thousands

Marketing Manager Clayton van Vliet noted the festival's purpose of ringing in the celebrations before the busy holiday rush. Besides the bread tastings, attendees were invited to write Christmas wishes, with Fernandes planning to fulfill one or more before the holidays.

The event underscores Fernandes’ commitment to spreading joy and unity. By year-end, the bakery plans to share over 120 meters of their festive bread, making this tradition a cherished staple for Suriname.
