July 14, 20263 min read

The Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC), in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers' Association (TTMA), successfully concluded the 2026 TTMA Trade & Investment Mission to Guyana and Suriname, bringing together 58 delegates representing more than 30 Trinidad and Tobago companies for a week of structured business engagement, government consultations, market exploration, and strategic networking across both countries.

Facilitated and organized locally by SGCC, the mission builds on the outstanding success of the 2025 edition, which generated more than 300 SGCC-curated business-to-business meetings and contributed to over US$300 million in reported business opportunities, partnerships, and commercial deals across Guyana and Suriname.

The programme was the culmination of several months of consultation, company profiling, stakeholder engagement, and strategic matchmaking undertaken by SGCC and TTMA. Each participating company was individually assessed to better understand its products, services, expansion objectives, and partnership interests, enabling SGCC to curate targeted engagements with relevant private sector organizations, government agencies, distributors, manufacturers, buyers, suppliers, investors, and strategic partners throughout both Guyana and Suriname.

The mission officially commenced in Guyana, where delegates were welcomed during the opening ceremony by SGCC, TTMA, and government representatives. Participants also heard keynote remarks from The Honourable Dr. Ashni K. Singh, M.P., Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, who highlighted Guyana's unprecedented economic transformation and encouraged delegates to establish strategic partnerships that would contribute to sustainable regional growth.

Throughout the Guyana programme, delegates participated in more than 200 SGCC-curated business-to-business meetings spanning the energy, manufacturing, construction, logistics, agriculture, food and beverage, tourism, professional services, technology, and trade support sectors. The programme was further strengthened through dedicated business support help desks and consultations with the Guyana Office for Investment (G-Invest), the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), the Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department, Caribbean Containers Inc. (Guyana), and RAMPS Logistics, providing practical guidance on investment opportunities, standards and certification, regulatory requirements, logistics, and market entry.

The mission then continued in Suriname, where delegates participated in a strategic pre-mission briefing hosted by The Honourable Andrew Baasaron, Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Suriname, who outlined Suriname's investment priorities, economic outlook, and opportunities for regional private sector collaboration. The briefing provided valuable insight into the Surinamese market ahead of the programme of business engagements.

During the Suriname leg, delegates completed more than 200 additional SGCC-curated business-to-business meetings, bringing the mission total to more than 400 structured business meetings across Guyana and Suriname. Companies met with prospective distributors, manufacturers, buyers, suppliers, investors, government agencies, and strategic partners to explore distributorship agreements, representation partnerships, procurement opportunities, service contracts, joint ventures, and long-term investment collaborations.

Delegates also benefited from a series of dedicated help desks and business consultations with the Suriname Investment and Trade Agency (SITA), the Competitiveness Unit Suriname (CAFSA), Caribbean Containers Suriname N.V., Tropical Shipping, SOGLASS, HBN Law & Tax, and RCFA Accountants & Tax Advisors. These sessions provided practical guidance on investment facilitation, taxation, logistics, customs procedures, regulatory requirements, and establishing or expanding operations within Suriname.

Across both countries, the mission created a comprehensive platform for regional business development by combining structured business-to-business matchmaking, high-level government engagement, institutional support, technical guidance, and market intelligence. The successful completion of the mission further demonstrates the growing confidence of Caribbean businesses in the opportunities emerging within Guyana and Suriname and reinforces SGCC's commitment to facilitating meaningful commercial partnerships, expanding regional trade, and supporting sustainable private sector growth.
