Prime Minister Mottley Highlights Suriname's Bright Future
Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley commended Suriname’s potential with its upcoming oil and gas revenues, emphasizing their role in driving prosperity and sustainable development. She praised the "Royalties for Everyone" initiative for ensuring inclusive benefits. PM Mottley touched on regional collaboration, renewable energy potential, and food security opportunities, urging CARICOM countries to harness shared resources for growth.
The Honourable Prime Minister also headlined the 16th Self Reliance Trefossa Lecture, addressing "Culture as a Catalyst for Innovation and Sustainable Development" on January 15 at Suriname's Hotel Torarica. Welcomed by Minister Albert Ramdin and dignitaries, her insightful speech emphasized culture's role in Caribbean unity, aligning with her CARICOM Chairmanship and Barbados' hosting of Carifesta XV

Road Monitoring Project Launched in Suriname on Jan. 17, 2025
President Chandrikapersad Santokhi inaugurated the China-aid Road Monitoring Project. With 650 cameras to be installed at 100 locations nationwide, the system will be monitored from a central Command Center. Highlighting China as a key development partner, President Santokhi emphasized the project's alignment with priorities on public order and safety. Justice Minister Kenneth Amoksi assured citizens of the system’s integrity, reinforcing its focus on safety rather than privacy concerns.

Historic US EXIM Bank Financing Paves Way for Guyana’s Transformative GtE Project
On January 10, 2025, Prime Minister Mark Phillips, Senior Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, and US EXIM Bank President Reta Jo Lewis marked a historic moment with the signing of a Term Sheet for a US$527 million loan supporting Guyana’s Gas to Energy (GTE) project. The agreement, which aims to bolster the nation’s economy, was sealed at the Wales project site. This transformative project, made possible by the US EXIM Bank’s financing, underscores a strong partnership and Guyana’s commitment to a sustainable energy future.
