Guyana–Brazil Road Transport Agreement: A Gateway for Regional Trade
The International Road Transport Agreement (IRTA) between Guyana and Brazil is a breakthrough for regional integration, creating regulated routes for passenger and cargo movement from Lethem to Boa Vista, Manaus, and Georgetown. By streamlining licensing and customs processes, the IRTA will open new trade, tourism, and investment corridors, linking the Caribbean to Brazil’s vast market. For Suriname and Guyana, this development complements the planned Corentyne Bridge, which promises to further enhance connectivity, reduce logistical bottlenecks, and strengthen cross-border commerce. Together, these projects signal a new era of integration and prosperity across the wider region.
