Guyana advances major agricultural partnerships to scale production and investment
Guyana is advancing discussions with Brazilian investors to unlock large-scale agricultural projects, as the government accelerates efforts to expand production, strengthen food security, and position agriculture as a key pillar of economic growth. Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha recently engaged a high-level delegation of Brazilian investors, underscoring the country’s readiness to facilitate investment and connect international partners with local farmers and landholders to support joint ventures and agro-industrial expansion.
This push is being reinforced by major infrastructure developments aimed at transforming Guyana into a regional agricultural hub. The ongoing Linden–Lethem corridor is expected to create a direct land link to northern Brazil, significantly reducing transport costs and opening a critical trade route connecting Brazilian production to Guyana’s ports and onward to Caribbean and North American markets. Complementing this is the planned development of a modern port facility at Parika, designed with integrated cold storage, packaging, and agro-processing capabilities to support export readiness and reduce post-harvest losses.
The initiative also aligns with broader sector investments, including the revitalisation of the sugar industry. Irfaan Ali has reaffirmed its importance to rural livelihoods, with $13.4 billion allocated in 2026 to support mechanisation, factory upgrades, and value-added production.
For Surinamese companies, this signals clear opportunities for cross-border collaboration in agro-processing, input supply, logistics, and agricultural technology. As Guyana scales its output and strengthens its connectivity to Brazil, partnerships within the Suriname-Guyana corridor will be critical to building an integrated, competitive regional agri-value chain—positioning both countries to better serve regional and international markets.
