Fueled.gy Launch and Occupational Safety & Health Symposium Highlight Guyana’s Focus on Innovation and Workforce Safety
As Guyana’s oil and gas sector continues its rapid expansion, attention is increasingly turning not only to production growth but also to how information, technology, and workforce standards evolve alongside the industry.
This focus was reflected in the recent launch of Fueled.gy, a new digital platform developed in collaboration with News Room Guyana, to provide accessible and credible coverage of Guyana’s oil, gas, and extractives sector. Speaking at the launch, Senior Minister Dr. Ashni Singh emphasized the importance of translating complex industry developments into information that citizens, businesses, and investors can clearly understand, particularly as production continues to accelerate toward projected output of more than one million barrels per day in the near term.
The platform’s launch comes at a time when the sector is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with growing emphasis on technology, operational standards, and workforce readiness. Discussions at the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning’s Occupational Safety and Health Symposium highlighted how artificial intelligence is already being integrated into offshore support operations to improve safety, compliance monitoring, and risk management.
Industry representatives noted that AI-driven systems are helping reduce human exposure to hazards through automated monitoring, real-time safety feedback, and enhanced operational oversight within offshore logistics and shore base environments. AI is also being used in training and onboarding systems to support workforce preparation as demand for skilled labour continues to grow.
During the symposium, Guyana’s Prime Minister Mark Phillips reaffirmed that safety remains a non-negotiable component of Guyana’s energy expansion, stressing that the country will not compromise worker protection in pursuit of growth. He highlighted the increasing importance of internationally aligned safety standards, workforce wellbeing, and psychosocial support systems as the sector expands across offshore operations, engineering, logistics, and support services.
Together, these developments point to a broader transition within Guyana’s energy sector, one where growth is increasingly tied not only to production, but also to information accessibility, technological advancement, workforce development, and operational resilience.
These trends reinforce the expanding opportunities emerging in areas such as digital solutions, industrial technology, workforce training, safety services, logistics, and communications. As the sector matures, businesses that can support innovation, compliance, and operational excellence are likely to play an increasingly important role in the region’s evolving energy landscape.
